Here are some posts I enjoyed this week:
Who knew? There’s a website devoted to all the tv shows and motion pictures that prominently feature ancient Egypt. You can look by year, topic etc. So if you love cool or kitschy, old, new or obscure films set in ancient Egypt, here’s your chance. Click here for Ancient Egypt Films website
Remains of ancient pyramid 3,700 yrs old found in Egypt near bent pyramid of King Snefru. They’ve excavated parts of an impressive corridor made of squared stone block. Nothing in this article about whose pyramid they think it might be or even who is doing the excavating. I guess we’ll need patience or a more informed source. Here’s a lecture I’d have loved to hear. Brian Rose on the historical basis of the Trojan War. Rose was one of the key archaeologists for many years with the contemporary dig at the site of Troy. The title of the talk was “Was There A Trojan War? Assessing the Evidence: Excavations at Troy, 1988-2012,” Click here for University of Delaware “The Homeric allure: Archaeological findings on the Trojan War”
Upcoming Archaeological Institute of America Lecture this Thursday April 27 Topic: Bucolic Architecture: Hellenic Pastoral Temples in the Peloponnese at 6pm, ASU Tempe Campus, Coor Hall Room L1-10 Click here for the AIA Central Arizona Chapter website with lecture description and details
Many years ago I caught this film on a movie classics TV channel about a pyramid being built and the pharaoh’s scheming wife who planned to steal his treasure after he died. It was so cool, but I never caught the name of it. FINALLY I found it on the ancient Egyptian films website you listed: Land of the Pharaohs made in 1955. I would recommend it, despite its inaccuracies due to the time period it was made in. One of the better films created about the time of the pyramids, and partially filmed in Aswan. Thanks for sharing! You’ve solved a mystery for me!
