From My Fantasy Writing Desk
I’m sharing a fun podcast interview today. Jenn and Mary dissect book covers on their podcast, “Casing the Cover.” Jenn holds the distinction of being the only librarian I know who is also a sword-wielding pirate. She also happens to love history, even my somewhat obscure Bronze Age Near Eastern world. So we had a blast together.
In the podcast our conversation starts with a quick overview of what I write. Then it dives into a discussion of my cover artist’s process in producing my book cover images. I explained some of the sources of the historically referenced artwork. I knew Heather, the artist, is great, but Jenn and Mary’s surprise at the level of detail and refinement Heather applies to each of my covers showed me how unusual her talent is, as well as the generosity of the time she devotes to each design.
After this “interrogation” about my covers, especially the griffin on the most recent one, Jenn and I geek out about history and how I incorporate it into my fantasy plot lines. There are distinct parts within the longer conversation. You can choose to dabble and drop in for a brief listen or stick around for the whole stretch.
